Its been a long time I have written anything here. Meanwhile, I came across many more ICT tools that can enhance learning environment but two tools which got me really excited were Plickers and Nearpod. I am sure many of you who are reading this might know it already. But still I feel I must share this with you. I started using Plickers in 2015. The best thing about this tool is that it solves our problem of students bringing their own devices and yet we are using ICT. It is an assessment tool and can be used anywhere in the lesson - as starter, or in the middle part or as end of lesson assessment. You need to have few pre-requisites though - first create an account in www.plickers.com, create your questions and your students and assign the questions to your class. Next download plickers app from the app store/play store. Thirdly print and distribute the plicker cards to your students according to their roll numbers in your roster. Start the quiz (log in to your laptop - to the live view page of plickers.com) and the question will appear on the screen. Students will raise the card - the correct option to the top and teacher will scan their cards. You will get their answers and can give instant feedback. Well my explanation looks really long but believe me it is not as cumbersome as it seems. It works very well with all ages of students especially with primary and middle. If the instructions are given clearly and procedure explained properly, you can handle the slight indiscipline that is mainly due to the excitement of using Plickers. I will talk about Nearpod next time.

I came across a new tool Voicethread.
Create an account at www.voicethread.com. Upload anything- video, image, presentation, add text and share it with your students. Get comments from your students by posing them open ended questions. Interesting part is that you can type your comment or record or use web cam and give live recording When my class was given the topic UAE National Day for the assembly, I said 'not again'. I was worried that I will repeat the same as last year. But 33 + 1 heads joined and the result was a wonderful assembly which will remain in my (or rather our) memory forever. The tableau, the stick and hair dance, the belly dance, poem recitation, arabic speech the Arabic song and to add flavour to all - the powerpoint presentation, everything went well. All my girls were brilliant. Well done gilrs! I am proud of you. All our hard work paid off.
I agree this post is quite late, but better late than never. Many times I have to face the question - why do we study social studies. I think this video gives an answer to it. Watch it and enjoy! This flow chart is based on the lesson - 'Peasants and Farmers'. The chart shows the enclosure movements that started in 16th and 18th century England Answer these questions: 1. Compare enclosure movements of 16th century and 18th century. 2. Imagine you are a peasant living in 18th century England. Write a letter to your friend in town about your conditions in countryside. |
